Get it straight on Asbos
• HAVING passed several drug dealers on my way home from picking up the CNJ I was not impressed to read about the Lib Dems' latest wheeze to avoid taking strong measures against the pushers (Hit squad flies in to cut crime, Oct 19).
The situation with drug dealers in Camden Town and the surrounding area has got noticeably worse in recent months.
The response of the Lib Dems' inexperienced community safety boss? "Don't worry, I've sent for some academics and civil liberties campaigners."
I understand that the Lib Dems are ideologically opposed to Asbos and have put the matter 'up for review' but I don't think many people in Camden will be sympathetic to this inactivity while we get hassled more every day.
If the Lib Dems think the previous Labour council pursued too many Asbos, I would like to ask which drug dealers they think should not have been banned from the borough?
Of course, we also need to provide alternative activities for young people so they are not tempted into bad behaviour through having nothing better to do.
Why then is the council cutting back on youth clubs all over Camden? It seems their policy is not only to take away the stick but the carrot too.

• CLLR Ben Rawlings wants to hear the views of "any and all" Camden residents on anti-social behaviour (We want everyone to help us beat crime, Oct 26).
Noticeably absent are Cllr Rawlings' own views. Before being elected, he had this to say about Camden's strategy on the Lib Dem website: "From poorly thought out, inconsistent and irresponsible Asbos to oppressive curfews and the nonsensical respect agenda, Labour is criminalising and demonising the younger generation".
Now in power Cllr Rawlings' is part of a council executive that has agreed to slash provision for young people. I can't help but wonder why he now needs so many experts to tell him about Asbos when the views on which he was elected were so clear.
Is this just another example of a politician saying one thing to be elected and another once elected?
