Mr Asbo going is a big loss
• CAMDEN'S Labour councillors are extremely saddened to hear of the loss of Ian Walker - a top rate public servant - from Camden's anti-social behaviour team to a new post at Newham ('Mr Asbo' joins the Town Hall exodus, October 26).
Ian was one of the most pivotal figures in making sure that Camden residents protected against the scourge of hard drugs and drug-related anti-social behaviour when it exploded onto the scene in 2001/2.
Since then Ian's leadership has helped to build community strength against this menace, most notably in the use of Asbos against pushers coming in from outside the borough.
But while the CNJ dubs Ian 'Mr Asbo', please don't forget his innovative work with vulnerable drug users, especially around King's Cross.
Ian also set up a work placements scheme at the council for young Bengalis and supported nationally recognised preventative work drawing young people away from anti-social behaviour. By his championing of a new approach using prevention, treatment and enforcement our parks, estates and streets are safer because of his work.
We're sure Newham's gain is our real loss. We're also sure many former councillors, tenants and residents will wish him all the best in his new job.
Thanks Ian, we all respect your hard work.
