Spark goes out of prize win
A PHOTOGRAPHER who won an electric car in a raffle at the Bloomsbury Festival has returned her prize to the manufacturers.
Somers Town resident, Angela Inglis, was delighted to win the environmentally-friendly car, which runs on a rechargeable battery, 11 days ago.
But it soon turned to disappointment for Mrs Inglis, who lives in Goldington Street, when she discovered she would have to run a power cable from her house into the street to recharge the car’s battery. She said: “It just wouldn’t be possible. It would be a large cable, it would get in the way or kids would cut it.”
The car, a Reva G-Wiz worth about £7,000, is kinder to the environment as it does not emit carbon dioxide which contributes to global warming.
Mrs Inglis added: “I want to be eco-friendly, I would ditch my car and would have rented a car if I needed to go far. But gradually the sense of excitement from winning the car fell away and so GoinGreen (the distributor) are selling it for me. If I had a driveway it would have been fine, but it’s unfeasible for now.”
Environment chief, Councillor Mike Greene implored Mrs Inglis to hang on to the prize promising facilities would be improved.
He said: “We are currently reviewing our policies relating to electric vehicles.”
Nine spaces in Bloomsbury Square car park and two NCP car parks in Drury Lane and Saffron Hill have facilities for electric vehicles to be recharged. |
