Cllr Keith Sedgwick |
Politician assaulted by youth gang
GOSPEL Oak councillor Conservative Keith Sedgwick was assaulted last night (Wednesday) on the doorstep of the Queen’s Crescent Community Centre as he made his way to chair a meeting to discuss what the Town Hall could do to make the area a nicer place to live in.
Cllr Sedgwick, who lives on the Weedington Road estate, was confronted by a gang of youths he has had run ins with in the past – and one of them fired a rocket at the councillor, who was elected in the May elections.
He said: “This group are persistent trouble makers who have been dealing drugs on our estate and I have confronted them about it in the past. I can identify them – one of them I know has got an Asbo.”
Cllr Sedgwick turned round to face his attackers – and one grabbed his bicycle helmet and hit him around the head with it.
It smashed as he frantically dialled 999 for help.
Cllr Sedgwick added: “Over the summer the same group threatened to stab me, and have spat at me as I walk past.” |
