Swim clubs in medals splash
THE Cally Swim Squad made waves at the weekend as they scooped five medals and hit a host of personal bests at the National Masters Championships.
Fab Four Ed Hoyle, Sara Perry, Jane Leighton and Christine Jaeggi turned out for the highlight of the Masters season at the Ponds Forge International Sports Centre in Sheffield.
The Cally Masters, coached by Paul Doyle at the Cally Pool in Caledonian Road, are continuing to go from strength to strength with a series of dominant pool performances.
Christine Jaeggi was in devastating form in the butterfly, winning gold and silver in the 200m and the 100m events respectively. Competing in the 25-29 years age category, Christine also finished fourth in the 50m butterfly.
Competing in the same age group, team-mate Jane Leighton added to the Cally medal count as she won silver in both the 200m breaststroke and the 400m freestyle.
There was also a bronze medal for Sara Perry in the 45-49 years age group as she sealed a top three finish in the 200m breaststroke. Meanwhile Ed Hoyle knocked a massive nine seconds off his fastest ever time in the 100m butterfly in the 25-29 years age group.
• SPEEDY swimmer Edward Graham was in exceptional form on Saturday when he took to the pool for Camden Swiss Cottage Swimming Club at the Middlesex Development Meet in Enfield.
The talented 12-year-old clinched silver medals in both the 200m backstroke and the 100m freestyle. He also smashed his previous personal best times in the 200m and 400m Individual Medley and the 1500m freestyle – earning him no fewer than three speeding tickets, which denotes that he is faster than the designated development time.
Elsewhere Jesse Matthews swam out of his skin as he won gold in the 400m freestyle and silver in the 50m butterfly. Jesse, 10, was also awarded two speeding tickets, one for knocking an incredible 18 seconds off his personal best time in the 200m freestyle.
Other top Camden swimmers presented with speeding awards were 10-year-olds Kelly Hookway, Tamsin McKinnon and Ethan Ennals.
On the day, Andrew Hardt, 15, was the most prolific medallist for Camden Swiss Cottage with five gold, four silver and three bronze medals from his 12 events.
Santiago Parilli and Liam Coyle, who are both 13, continued the club’s successful afternoon as they added a further nine medals between them, consisting of five gold, two silver and two bronze.
There were also medals for Olivia Monaghan, Camilla Grossman, Clara Ahmed, Cordelia Grossman, Max Hayhurst, Chris Harvey, Ilya Skliarov, Leanne Yates, Lucas Perry-Hill and Saffron Coyle.
