Lismore Circus could treat addicts
•
MARY Barnes ( Nov 9) is quite right that we need to treat drug addiction as a medical problem.
In Gospel Oak we could very well use the health centre in Lismore Circus as a place where addicts could be treated for their addiction and all the mental and other health problems which go with it.
Bassetlaw in Nottinghamshire – with the leadership of the local Labour MP John Mann – has pioneered this kind of GP based treatment and seen a dramatic fall in drug-related crime.
Gospel Oak should be at the forefront of this sort of approach.
Perhaps we could arrange a Community Panel similar to the one held in Bassetlaw where we could talk to all agencies involved in drug use from the police to the users and come up with a proper drugs strategy that would really make a difference to our community.

• AT a meeting in Gospel Oak last week it was clear that residents were most concerned about drug dealing and consequent violence in the neighbourhood. I support the proposal that the Health Centre in Lismore Circus could, with the help of the NHS, provide both a service for addicts where they could get prescriptions and other help and even more importantly a service to help young people who are in danger of becoming addicted.
