Religious schools cause divisions
• MY eye caught the misleading headline on Rose Hacker’s article (Religious education is divisive in tragic ways, Nov 23).
Religious Education in state schools follows a syllabus drawn up by a committee of representatives from all faith groups in a local authority.
Here in Haringey, it includes not only all major religions and Christian denominations, but a humanist as well. The purpose of RE is to help pupils from different backgrounds understand and respect what others believe.
It is not divisive, but a major force for social harmony. (As the article actually recognises.)
What the headline should say is: Religious schools are divisive.
