Remember Philip Lawrence
• REGARDING your report of riot cops being called to Hampstead School (Nov 30).
How dare young people who attend school, who do not pay taxes and whose only job is to learn about life and educate themselves complain when they are treated with some deserved firmness by the police.
School children must realise that they do not make a positive contribution towards society until they reach a certain age and achieve a certain maturity.
That is not to say that they do not have rights but the rights that they have do not include carrying knives, metal bars, or wooden chair legs with embedded nails.
Their rights do not include gathering mobs on the streets and assaulting teachers or police.
The Police must act firmly to protect public order and should be commended in this case for doing so. Think about the brutal murder in 1995 of Philip Lawrence, his fellow head teacher of St Georges in Maida Vale.
This must not be allowed to happen again.
