Sir Roger opens health centre at his old school
ONE of the world’s fastest men lingered to praise a new sports centre opened at his old school in Hampstead yesterday (Wednesday).
Professor Sir Roger Bannister, CBE, 77, drew the curtain on a health complex named in his honour at University College School (UCS), Frognal.
The first man to break the four-minute mile barrier – and a leading neurologist who became Master at Pembroke College, Oxford – said the naming of the centre in his honour was “quite humbling”.
The centre boasts a heated pool, sports hall, aerobics studio and gym as part of a £12-million redevelopment of the independent all-boys’ school, founded in 1830.
The centre has been opened to the local community through a new sports club, UCS Active. |
