Young Harriers a force
YOUNGSTERS from Highgate Harriers turned out in force on Saturday for race three in the North West London Cross-Country League at Trent Park.
The top team of Harriers ventured from the hills of Highgate to record a series of impressive times as the club continues to go from strength to strength.
Highlights for the Harriers included team victories for the boys in both the under-11s and under-15s age categories, while the girls' got the points they needed to hold on to their second place standing in the under-15s league.
In the boys' under-11s event, there was just four seconds separating Stanley Harrison and Daniel Lavin as they finished second and third respectively. Peter Laing also ran well to take 10th place.
In the boys' under-15s race William Laing sealed a third place finish for Highgate, closely followed by Hamish Birrell who came home fourth.
George Laing and Max Coventry also claimed top-ten places as they crossed the finishing line in eighth and 10th position respectively.
Amy-Jane Cotter led the field for the Harriers in the girls' under-13s race to earn a respectable fifth place finish, six places ahead of club-mate Stella Sabin who took 11th spot.
The Harriers' under-15s girls put in a good team performance to finish second in their league. Alice Keane finished fourth, with Maisie Bovingdon taking seventh place. Verity Cleveley-Jones just missed out on a top ten placing as she came home 11th, while Talia Caspi and Andrea Kennedy finished 13th and 15th respectively.
Highgate's under-17s sides both sealed fourth place finishes. Nina Sorensen was the first Harrier home in the women's event as she took seventh place, with club-mate Hannah Ashman finishing in 10th spot.
Meanwhile in the men's race, Lawrence Matthewman put in a determined display to finish fifth.
LONDON Heathside also had some of their top junior runners on parade in the North West London Cross-Country League on Saturday.
The star of the show was Clem Berrill, who was selected to run for Middlesex in the Southern Inter Counties at Parliament Hill on Saturday after an impressive second place finish in the boys' under-15s race.
Brook Abrha ran well in the boys' under-11s race to earn eighth place, while Gabriel Springer finished in 14th spot.
Meanwhile in the girls' under-15s event, Cleo Chevalier hit home in 16mins, 27secs to finish 10th.
