Infamy to call club infamous
•
I FEEL as though I need to write to you regarding your story about the Tonbridge club (All smiles at opening of £1.7m boys’ club). It has shocked and upset many residents in and around Camden, especially the older people and our children, whom have children of their own now.
The Tonbridge club was a safe haven for all ages. I am the youngest of six children, four brothers and one sister, I am now 60 and all my siblings can remember the club.
There was always something to do, and lots of wonderful things going on, all kinds of sports, shows, entertainment. The Tonbridge club kept the community together, where’s our community now?
I have many friends living abroad and when we get in touch we reminisce about the club, it was amazing.
I really must point out that Sheila and Tom Hibbert and staff, who worked tirelessly seven days a week and if necessary 24 hours a day. Sheila gave her heart and soul to the club, she has two children but really many hundreds love her dearly.
She taught every child the meaning of respect, and believe me to bring up children in the King’s Cross area was not easy, but with the help of Shelia and Tom our children turned out fine.
So, whomever it was that said that the club was ‘infamous’ please tell them to get their facts right. No wonder we have no community anymore.
