Lion King and African drummers gatecrash schools’ traditional nativity season
TRADITIONAL nativity scenes of little donkeys and sparkling angels contrasted with characters from cinema’s The Lion King when primary schools staged festive shows this week.
At Beckford Primary in West Hampstead, children from its nursery and Year One performed The Donkey Story.
At St George The Martyr in Holborn, more than 200 pupils took part in a song-and-dance spectacular, The Christmas Presence.
The Hoity Toity Angel, a play about a stuck-up angel who learns that true beauty lies on the inside, proved a popular choice with pupils at Brecknock, in Camden Town, and St Paul’s C of E, in Primrose Hill, who dazzled parents with their productions.
Meanwhile, Rosary RC Primary in Haverstock Hill, Hampstead, and St Dominic’s Primary in Southampton Road, Kentish Town, stuck to more familiar themes with shepherds, angels and the Holy Family taking the stage.
At St Michael’s in Camden Street, Camden Town, more than 40 children packed the stage for its Star of Wonder production, followed by a programme of Christmas hits sung by the school’s gospel choir.
Back in West Hampstead, reception and nursery children at Kingsgate School took part in Was It a Dream? The youngsters fell asleep to re-awake in a strange land full of characters from their favourite fairy tales.
At New End Primary in Hampstead, the whole school took part in a colourful production of The Lion King, with the school hiring African drummers and a dance teacher to coach youngsters.
