Camden New Journal - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 28 December 2006

Leave our veg traders alone

ON behalf of Swiss Cottage and West Hampstead Liberal Democrats, we would like to express our concern about the plight of the fruit and flower stallholders at Finchley Road station and our support for the campaign to save these stalls.
For many years the stalls have provided a valuable service. People like being able to buy fruit and flowers easily on their way home from work.
These stalls also provide a friendly presence at the station entrance, helping to deter crime and anti-social behaviour (particularly at the station cashpoints).
It is thoroughly shabby behaviour for Transport for London to give the stallholders a month’s notice to quit, just before Christmas, and with no indication as to whether they will be able to return to their pitches once the station refurbishment has been carried out.
Ken Livingstone, who is responsible for TfL, should be ashamed of himself.
