Police vow: ‘We will find killer’
MURDER squad detectives are confident they will find the killer of a police mechanic – 11 years after his death.
Alan Holmes died in January 1996 from blood clotting and dehydration after being tied to a bed by an intruder at his flat in Parkway, Camden Town.
He had been left to die after a break-in on Boxing Day 1995.
Mr Holmes, who worked on police cars in Holmes Road station in Kentish Town, was found when he failed to return to work after the Christmas break.
He died in hospital shortly after telling detectives what had happened. His bank cards had been stolen and £1,000 raided from his accounts.
Detective Anthony McKeown said yesterday (Wednesday): “I am sure as time has gone by there must be more and more people who know who did this callous killing. “Alan was a gentle and liked man. It is tragic that at Christmas we continue to have to appeal for assistance to help solve his murder.”
He added: “We are hopeful advances in science will mean that one day we will be able to bring to justice the killers of Alan. DNA investigations have opened up fresh lines of inquiry which we will pursue but we still need the help of the public. “For us, this remains an open investigation. We are still very much committed to solving this terrible crime. We are still in contact with Alan’s family, who are supportive and grateful for the continuing investigation and hoping those responsible will be held to account.”
