Camden New Journal - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 04 October 2007

Whatever happened to accountability to tenants?

• THE chairman of Camden Association of Street Properties (CASP) fails to mention that behind the scenes the CASP committee has been making secret deals with the council to incorporate housing associations onto CASP, without consultation with its 6,700 members (Opposing the property sell-off, September 27).
CASP has been in operation for three years and has produced only one newsletter, held one general meeting since January last year and continues to withhold its accounts, minutes of committee meetings and its annual meeting in April. Funding for CASP comes from the housing revenue account, to which members pay into, yet there is little accountability for how this money is spent. I have asked for such information and been ignored by the CASP committee and the housing management who directly fund CASP. Despite there being a recent review of tenant participation, what continues to be lacking are the most important features –  accountability, transparency and inclusiveness.
