Resist heating bills with all your might

• LEASEHOLDERS on the Brunswick estate (Heating bills are a bit rich, September 27) are right to be worried. We were billed close to an astounding £11,000 when the heating and hot water system was replaced two years ago on our estate. £11,000 for a two-bedroom flat!
And the worst of it is that the new system has resulted in an ongoing noise nuisance for flats under the roof, similar to a moped going crazy in the loft, when flats downstairs run their water. We’ve endured this for two years now, day and night, and the consultants and Power Minister seem to be unable and/or unwilling to rectify it.
We were told, although the reason was never made clear, that it was impossible for us to install individual heating systems, which indeed would have been three to four times cheaper and undoubtedly much less noisy.
When we took up the lease we were advised to put away £500 a year to contribute to works – a serious underestimate. We were not eligible to pay in instalments (which were in any case to be paid over quite a short interval) because we part-buy/part-rent through a housing association. So our “affordable housing” has plunged us into debt!
My advice to the Brunswick residents is to resist with all your might and main.
You will not be getting value for money.
