Royal Free in TfL talks

THE chief executive of the Royal Free hospital is arranging talks with Transport for London to discuss improving train services to South End Green.
The Hampstead hospital’s boss Andrew Way wants to discuss making it easier for patients to get to and from the hospital.
As the hospital gears up for Foundation status, which will allow them to attract new patients as if they were a commercial company, the Free wants to offer to help pay to make Hampstead Heath’s Silverlink station more accessible for disabled people.
Currently a set of steep steps lead onto the platforms.
He said: “The station at the moment does not have good disability access, and of Transport for London are looking to revamp the station, we’d like to contribute.”
The station is closer to the Pond Street hospital than Belsize Park tube and with trains running every 15 minutes from east and west London, it could provide the Free with a new constituency.
Mr Way added: “This is linked to the patients choice agenda. We want to make is easier for people to come to free via public transport.
“Often people in West Hampstead look at St Mary’s in Paddington but the Heath station is very convenient for them to use.”
