Vicar pleads for funds
A HAMPSTEAD vicar has pleaded with his congregation to help raise an extra £40,000 each year – or face cuts in the services the church provides.
The Reverend Stephen Tucker, father at St Johns parish church in Church Row, Hampstead has told parishoners that with four members of staff, three clergy and a part time administrator, the church needs to raise more money.
he added: “It is a sad fact of life that each year people move away or die, and although we have received some generous legacies, their regular contribution needs to be made up by new donors. “We can develop our pastoral care, our teaching and nurturing of the spiritual life, or we can be less ambitious and make some painful decisions about areas of work and worship where we have to prune our activities.”
