Fencers make their point at international
CAMDEN Fencing Club members returned to action on Saturday at the Manchester International Cadet Sabre Tournament, held at the Bolton Arena.
The Camden club, which is based at Acland Burghley Secondary School in Tufnell Park, entered six young fencers into the fold, in what was a very strong under-17s competition.
Waldo Ramsay and Soji Aiyenuro, who are both 13, came 11th and 12th respectively after narrowly losing their direct elimination fights to much older fencers.
The previous week, under-13s fencers Jessica Franklin and Max Woollard both put in a series of impressive performances to reach the last eight of the Durham Leon Paul Junior Series Foil competition.
Elsewhere, Fabio Artesi won gold in the under-13s boys category of the Bedford Leon Paul Junior Series Sabre Tournament.
In the under-11s division, Alex Hamilton-Holbrook and Josh Spoor both won silver medals.
Meanwhile, Emma Horrix, Rubin Amsalem and Gianfranco Artesi all won bronze medals.
