Camden New Journal - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 11 October 2007

That car had been unticketed for two days

• MAY I please correct the various assumptions and assertions made by Rudy Bright, head of parking, Camden Council (Wardens slapped fine on car – and then removed it, October 4)?
The critical factor here was time. The car had remained blissfully unticketed for two days, even if later ticketed and removed by 22nd. The tickets then on its windscreen clearly stated that they related to previous infractions on Oxford Street committed quite some time before.
The car may well have been removed before my letter was published, as my letter had missed the deadline for that week’s paper by a whisker.
I originally wrote in by email to the New Journal on September 18, at which point the car had already been there unticketed for two days.
Interestingly, it seems also to have remained there for a further four, as now confirmed by Rudy Bright, which I had not since passed by to observe.
I had not stated at any point that the car was abandoned, as I had also observed that it had a tax disc valid up to September 30 2007.
My own infraction lasted for just 10 minutes after 6.30pm on a Sunday for being parked next to a dropped section of kerb.
The fact that it was on a single yellow line right next to a sign stating that it was outside restricted hours was immaterial.
I was evidently ticketed immediately and I am in no doubt that my car would have been removed very shortly afterwards.
This shabbier car lasted at least two days by my own observation, without once being ticketed, and maybe more.
So, Rudy Bright, you did not “answer” my letter, you merely rambled on about abandoned vehicles.
Was this, perhaps, a cut-and-paste job from the various standard replies Camden sends out? It is certainly all we have come to expect these days.
