Shoe store set to go walkabout
FASHIONISTAS in the borough will be teary-eyed to hear that shoemaker to the stars Beatrix Ong has been seduced by the bright lights of the West End and is closing her Primrose Hill boutique.
The flagship store in Regent’s Park Road has been a site of pilgrimage for north London’s bright young things keen to slip their feet into the latest catwalk must-haves since it opened in 2004.
Mrs Ong, who lives in Belsize Park, said the business had outgrown the boutique and was moving because she needs more space. She said: “The move is a natural progression for the business. I love Primrose Hill and when the brand is bigger, I would love to reopen in the area.”
Her shoes have become something of a godsend for women, who are fed up with having to make a compromise between comfort and style. Mrs Ong solves the perennial quandary by making shoes comfortable enough for daytime wear and fashionable enough for a night on the town.
Born in London, the Central St Martins graduate cut her teeth designing for king cobbler Jimmy Choo, before shooting to fame after her collection took London Fashion Week by storm in 2002. She has a raft of famous clients including Sadie Frost, Kate Moss and Sienna Miller. Mrs Ong moves from the boutique to a new three floor store in the grandeur of the Burlington Arcade in Mayfair on November 1.
