No to humiliation, but yes to ‘generous’ benefits means-testing
• I WOULD like to answer the letter you printed concerning pensions (Should pensioners face means-test humiliation? October 4). Without wanting to offend anyone I have to say (as a pensioner myself) that they should be means-tested.
In fact, all non-contributory benefits should be means-tested, albeit with a reasonably generous ethos, otherwise people who don’t need them will receive them. And don’t forget that they are paid for by taxpayers. MARGARET KING
