Boxing clever… the neighbours with nature on their window sill
NEIGHBOURS in Bloomsbury have finished neck and neck in a window box competition.
Joint winners Jill Petty and Jim Curran were each rewarded with a certificate featuring pictures of their winning flowers in Marchmont Street.
Eighty of the street’s window boxes were entered for the competition. “They provide welcome stopping points for bees, butterflies and sometimes a few green fly, as well as providing a pleasing aesthetic to the area,” Ms Petty said.
Mr Curran joked: “I only grew the plants to have a little bit of nature on the window sill.”
Chairman of the Marchmont Street tenants association, Ricci De Freitas, who judged the competition, said: “I hope more people are encouraged to green their window sills – we also hope it inspires people in other streets to brighten up their neighbourhoods.”
