Harriers riding high
HIGHGATE Harriers’ women raced to the top of the table in the Metropolitan League on Saturday after winning their first fixture of the season at Ruislip. Having won the league five years in a row, Highgate are looking to once again claim the title and made the perfect start with Esther Evans coming home second in 22:07, Kate Jenrick finishing third in 22:37 and Anna McCutcheon taking fourth place in 22:42.
Highgate also made an impressive start in the men’s race as they improved on last year’s fourth place finish to take third spot. Notching up a total of 1496 points, Highgate’s top three scorers in the Division One meet were Henry Dodwell, who finished fifth, Glen Saqui, who hit home in ninth place, and Saningo Martyn, who took 13th place.
Meanwhile on Sunday, Highgate’s Middlesex county runner, Esther Evans was the first woman in the large field of runners to hit home in the Cabbage Patch 10 miles road race in Wimbledon as she crossed the finishing line in just under an hour.
Elsewhere club mate Anna McCutcheon was the first woman home in the Invesco Perpetual half marathon at Henley on Sunday.
