Camden New Journal - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR Published: 25 October 2007
Beyond foot and mouth
• EARLIER this year there was an outbreak of foot and mouth disease in Surrey, apparently due to escape from this country’s main research centre in Pirbright. I therefore find it hard to believe that anyone could contemplate building a research centre into transmittable human diseases close to the site where, if a disease does escape, it’s likely to spread further and quicker than from any other site.
The cost to London’s economy of any precautionary evacuation of King’s Cross and St Pancras doesn’t bear thinking about.
The consequences if such precautions don’t work are even more horrifying. Please let us nip this idea in the bud. SIMON NORTON
