Photo opportunity pays off for Naomi
SOME of the biggest names in the world of music, film and fashion are offering the opportunity of a lifetime to a select few apprentices from Camden and Islington.
Fashion photographer Rankin, Mobo-award-winning MC Kano and music video and documentary director Dawn Shadworth are just a few names on a glittering roster of industry leaders lined up to mentor students for a pioneering Channel 4 documentary series.
Debutantes, set to be screened this weekend on Channel 4, follows Camden resident Riffat Ahmed, Naomi Cube and five other young hopefuls as they pursue their dream careers.
Islington-based photographer and School of Oriental and African Studies student Naomi was chosen for the documentary after a client sent in some pictures she had taken at a party.
Iconic British photographer Rankin was assigned as her mentor.
Naomi, 19, said: “It was an amazing opportunity to get to work with Rankin. “To get first-hand advice and insight from a professional was incredible.”
Naomi has now been offered an internship by the world-famous photographer, working in his studio.
Debutantes, a collaboration between Channel 4 and TFL, follows on from the successful “Don’t die before you’ve lived” road safety advertising campaigns which featured imaginary film, sport and music stars of the future who are denied their glittering careers by premature death on London roads. |
