Rap school at the Roundhouse

AWARD-WINNING south London MC Blak Twang ventured to Camden this week to hold rapping workshops with youngsters at the Roundhouse.
The venue, which reopened last year, is hosting classes with various well-known faces at the helm as part of the Under-18s Electric Proms season, designed to run alongside the BBC’s Electric Proms.
The Proms, which launched last year, have already seen the Kaiser Chiefs and Mark Ronson play the main stage at the Roundhouse.
Selom Awadzi, 19, from Kentish Town, has acted as a peer mentor for the other teenagers.
He said: “It’s an experience to be around a pioneer.
“Once you’ve seen someone who’s made it and they’re willing to spend time on you, it gives you more inspiration, and more of an appreciation for this place.”
Mobo winner Blak Twang, who has worked with Talib Kweli and Estelle in the past, gave the teenagers a two-day masterclass in rapping as well as tips on beatboxing – creating bass, beats and scratching sounds with just the mouth.
