Camden New Journal - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR Published: 1 November 2007
Recycling hits problems with overflows • SINCE the council no longer collects recycling bags from the residents of many housing blocks across the borough, people trudging up to the street facilities with heavy bags are encountering a new problem – overflowing bins, a problem apparently caused by the failure to increase collections, despite the fact that these are obviously necessary.
The problem was first brought to the attention of the Green Party by a resident using the bins in Bidborough Street in Bloomsbury, in close proximity to the Town Hall, which are frequently overflowing. Surely the council can sort this in its own “back yard”?
But the problem extends well beyond there. The same circumstances have been reported on the Maiden Lane estate, and in the northern part of Somers Town.
I also wonder what has happened to the advertised Tetra Pak recycling in Bloomsbury Square?
On Saturday when one resident arrived with a full bag of the items, there was no recycling facility to be seen, only three glass recycling bins scattered, seemingly at random, along the east side of the square. SEAN THOMPSON
