Outstanding issues for Isokon tenants • THANK you for writing your article (The mysterious demise of Isokon, August 30) highlighting the repair problems tenants in the Isokon Building are having with our landlord Notting Hill Housing Group.
Unfortunately our situation remains the same and so I am now writing to you again and copying in the mayor’s office, Avanti Architects, English Heritage and Notting Hill in the hope that by including these people finally some action will be taken to resolve our security problem and our boiler access issue.
A great deal of money has been spent on the refurbishment of this fantastic building.
It is a great place to live. However, since February when a violent storm shattered a glass security door on the external staircase, the building has been accessible to everyone and anyone day and night.
This is neither safe for tenants nor desirable.
Several flats have been broken into and recently half a bus-load of tourists from Iceland descended on the building taking photographs and walking along balconies with free access.
In spite of more than a dozen emails to Notting Hill management about having the door replaced, nothing has been done to ensure the security of the building.
The second issue, which relates to the incorrect installation of our boilers, has left tenants with a fixture which is inaccessible and therefore un-insurable. Although Notting Hill initially denied any responsibility in this, they have now agreed in principle to assist with enabling access.
However, once again I find my landlord ignoring my request for this to be rectified.
These matters are terribly important.
One tenant ended up in hospital as a result of a faulty boiler system. What can be done?
I am hoping that bringing these matters to a wider audience may encourage NHHG to do the right thing.
I want the parties who invested funds and took an interest in this venture to know how we and they are being let down.
Once again, thank you for highlighting our difficulty. BARBARA LINDNER
