It’s trick and cheat as ‘witches’ demand money
HALLOWEEN brings all manner of horrors out of the woodwork, but restaurateurs on Parkway believe two little witches may have stirred up a little too much trouble.
Flummoxed staff at the Tupelo Honey restaurant described “the two terrors” as a pair of 8 to 10-year-old girls clad in fluorescent pink and green witches’ outfits who have been targeting bars and eateries in the area since last Friday, six days before the official date.
But instead of the traditional demands for sweets, the pint-sized sorcerers want only one thing – cold, hard cash.
Zamaris Nunez, an assistant manager at Tupelo Honey, said: “They come in with a lot of screaming and pouting. They ask people for money and when they get their bags out they just stick their hands in and grab what they can. On Friday night they stole a lady’s lip-gloss.”
Staff said that on both occasions the girls had hit their business, mothers were waiting around the corner, prompting suspicions of a Fagin-style racket.
Paulo Sergeev, assistant manager at Strada, said: “They just came in without asking. I thought ‘is it Halloween already?’. They were asking for money and when people opened their bags they were looking through it, taking money.”
Police community officers were ordered out alongside robbery squad detectives until 2am last night to reduce the number of muggings from last year’s total of 14 in one night.
