Maestro Christine clinches butterfly gold
TRIUMPHANT swimmer Christine Jaeggi retained her crown at the National Masters Championships at the weekend when she clinched gold in the 200m butterfly at Ponds Forge in Sheffield. Competing in the 25-29 years age group, Christine led the Cally Masters team to glory, powering her way to victory with an impressive time of 2.32.17.
The speedy star narrowly missed out on winning a bronze medal in the 100m butterfly, and went on to finish eighth in the 50m butterfly. Clubmate Sara Perry, who lined up in the 50-55 years age category, sealed a podium finish when she claimed third place in the 200m breaststroke to take bronze, before finishing sixth in the 100m breaststroke.
Andrew Jennison put in a series of impressive pool performances in the 25-29 age group to finish fifth in the 1500m freestyle and eighth in the 200m freestyle. In the same age division, teammate Ed Hoyle missed out on his personal best times with strong finishes in both the 50m butterfly and the 100m individual medley.
Meanwhile in the 30-34 years age group, Jennifer Dickson made an impressive debut at the nationals as she recorded a masters personal best time in the 100m free style and came seventh in the 50m backstroke.
