Park profit
• IN Regent’s Park there are currently 22 football pitches, some of which are half size for small games.
These pitches are severely under-used which makes me think that “Camden’s young people” may be better served by an alternative to football, rather than more of the same.
The real purpose of the proposed scheme is to make vast profits for Goals Soccer PLC by offering a corporate venue with full licensing facilities in a top central London location open till at least 10pm. In principle there is nothing wrong with people making large profits. But it is wrong when this is part financed by the public purse while the general public has to give up valued, beautiful parkland. And I have not even mentioned the loss of 75 mature trees.
