Harry leads Barnet medal rush
TRIUMPHANT duo Harry Needs (pictured) and Alex Mackay were crowned London Region Champions at the weekend after perfect pool performances for Camden Swiss Cottage Swimming Club at the short course Championships held at Barnet Copthall.
Harry was in sensational form to win the 16 and under 200m breaststroke in two minutes, 29.93secs and the 100m butterfly in 59.81secs. He also clinched silver in the 100m breaststroke.
In the open age category, the speedy 15-year-old, who lives in Islington. was also awarded silver in the breaststroke and bronze in the fly, as well as taking fourth spot in the 100m breaststroke.
Teammate Alex stormed to victory in the junior 1500m with a time of 16.26.24, to earn silver in the open age category.
He also claimed a silver medal in the 16 and under 400m individual medley, and bronze in the same event in the open division.
Alex rounded off a magnificent display when he set a new club record in the 200m freestyle. Ed Walsh also graced the winners podium to claim silver medals in the open 50m, 100m and 200m freestyle events and the 100m butterfly.
In the fly final, he just beat club mate Harry into third place by four hundredths of a second, setting a new personal best of 59.77.
Meanwhile in the 12/13 category, Bogac Ayhan set a new club record in the 200m fly, while Jessica Hobbs smashed a club record dating back to 1979 in the 400m freestyle.
