Beating speeding
• I often listen to residents complain about the lack of police time devoted to enforcing speed limits in Camden.
Of course, it is sadly true that police resources are stretched in many directions.
It is therefore really good to hear that a dozen speeding motorists have just been caught in an operation in Albany Street, Camden Town, with some hit with fines and penalty points, and others due to go to court. The council doesn’t have specific powers in this area but supported the police and the London Safety Camera Partnership in their work. Unfortunately there are still too many roads in the borough where some motorists speed along at 40mph, for which there is just no excuse. Let’s hope this operation sets an example, and that it’s not too long before there is further enforcement work by the police to improve road safety. Cllr ANDREW MARSHALL
