Swiss swim seals it
CAMDEN Swiss Cottage Swimming Club rewrote the record books at the weekend when they stormed to victory at Southbury Road Pool in Enfield to win both their opening rounds in the Speedo League for the first time in the club’s history.
Among the perfect pool performers was Tamsin McKinnon, who broke her own 11 and under club record in the 50m breaststroke and also won the 50m butterfly.
Clubmate Iao Pok Wong also picked up two impressive individual wins when he touched home first in the boys 13 and under 100m freestyle and 100m backstroke events.
Harry Needs and Felix Samuels dominated their 100m events in the boys 15 and under category. Harry, who lives in Islington, glided through the water as he won his breaststroke and backstroke races. The speedy swimmer just missed out on a third victory in the open age 200m individual medley when he finished half a second behind the winner with a new personal best time of 2.11.74.
Felix continued the gold rush with wins in his butterfly and freestyle events.
The medal mania continued as Ed Walsh won the men’s open 100m fly in a personal best time of 59.71, before going on to clinch victory in the 100m freestyle.
Kyla Steenhart and Matt Chappel were also in outstanding form as they both won their respective 100m breaststroke competitions. Katie Hogben also sealed a first place finish when she won the women’s open 100m fly with a time of 1.08.96.
In the 13-and-under age category Reut Benaim and Jessica Hobbs sealed impressive wins in their respective 100m fly and 100m freestyle events. Jessica also swam well to take second place in her 100m backstroke race.
In the 10-11 Division, Vincent Neves won the 50m freestyle, while Kelly Hookway (above) took first place in the 50m backstroke and second place in the 50m freestyle.
Elsewhere Devon Robins set a new best of 2.29.34 to finish second in the women’s open 200m individual medley, and was also second in the 15 and under 100m breaststroke and butterflySarah Taylor-Reid and Alex Peake both hit personal best times to finish second in the 13 and under 100m breaststroke. There were also second place finishes for Laura Hobbs, Naomi Wakeham-Aredes and John Rittenhouse.
Camden Swiss Cottage also celebrated 11 wins out of 16 in the relay events.
