Brand charms neighbours at gig

WHEN comedian Russell Brand moved to Hampstead earlier this year some in the neighbourhood worried he would struggle to fit in.
Lurid tabloid tales of the shock-haired comic’s romps and well-documented drug use preceded him, while an alleged attempt to woo his neighbours with signed photographs in exchange for parking spaces were similarly met with disdain.
But all fears have now been laid firmly to rest after Brand turned out for a local charity performance on Sunday evening.
The event, held at Burgh House in aid of the Mayhew Animal Home, raised more than £2,000 for the veterinary clinic and animal re-homing centre in Brent.
In front of a packed audience at the historic Hampstead home, Brand regaled the room with tales about his posh moggy Morrissey.
Angela Humphery, a neighbour of Brand’s, said: “He talked about how his cat’s got a diamante-studded collar. It was terrific – there were at least 70 people there.”
Brand made an appearance at the fundraiser after a neighbour knocked on his door with a plate of brownies and asked him along.
Ms Humphery added: “His home is near to Burgh House. With his long legs it only took a couple of strides to get to the gig, so he was home and dry before we could get out of our seats.”
