Semi-finals decided in Senior Cup
action hots up as cup fever grips the sunday league
THERE were goals galore this weekend as cup fever gripped the Camden Sunday League. Archway Allstars twice came from a goal behind to beat Moorehouse and book their place in the semi-finals of the Senior Cup. Having fallen behind early on, Leigh Hartley showed great composure in front of goal to pull Archway level.
Moorehouse regained the lead on the stroke of half-time, but the Allstars equalised again when James Birney slotted home from the penalty spot after Terry O’Neill was brought down in the area. Archway edged in front courtesy of a deflected effort from O’Neill, before Birney sealed an impressive 4-2 win with his second of the game.
Cobden Athletic also secured a place in the final four with a convincing win over Os Lusos. Having already beaten their opponents 7-0 in the league, there was little surprise when Robert Saint fired Cobden ahead within the opening five minutes of the match.
An own-goal saw Athletic double their lead minutes later, before Chris Knott unleashed a powerful free-kick to seal a 3-1 victory. Brasenose await Cobden in the semi-finals after they clinched a thrilling 5-3 win over Tergemo.
The thrills and spills continued as teams went head-to-head in the second round of the Junior Cup.
Billie Evans struck twice as Division Two high-flyers Constitution netted the biggest win of the round with a 5-2 victory over Dinamo Dorigo. Tom O’Neill and Dan Reid added their names to the score sheet for the Constitution, before Lee Miller completed the rout with a sumptuous 20-yard chip over the goalkeeper.
Elsewhere, Jonathan Thompson bagged a brace to earn Grupo Desportivo os Amigos de Londres a 2-1 win over North Side. There were also wins for both the Surreal Madrid ‘A’ and ‘D’ teams, River Fleet and CS Maritimo.
Meanwhile top Camden Sunday League side Reddot continued their victorious march in the London Cup with a 6-3 win over Aziz Genclik.
Man of the match Jon Dowsett struck twice early on when he added the finishing touches to Reddot’s exquisite one-touch passing.
Colm Lawlor added a third with his first goal of the season, but Aziz pulled two goals back to make it 3-2 at half-time and keep the game interesting.
Reddot ran riot in the second half as John Donovan and John Yates found the back of the net with powerful headers, before TJ O’Leary rounded off the win with a low drive.
