Tenants’ party day
TENANTS’ groups are to take a day off from their fight against funding cuts to celebrate the 35th birthday of an umbrella organisation on Saturday.
Camden Federation of Tenants and Residents Associations, which represents more than 100 groups, was formed after rent protests in the early 1970s.
It fears that a Town Hall decision next month could result in its budget being halved.
Tenants’ co-ordinator Hilary Barnes said: “The council was prepared to fund an organisation, which is in effect their conscience, in the past. We’ve been living on borrowed time for the past two years.”
The party is to be staged at The Marr on Curnock Street estate, in Camden Town. Ms Barnes said: “Anybody who has supported the federation in the past or at present has been invited to the party. Expect surprise guests.
