Sacked worker faces fraud charge

A HOUSING officer sacked from her post at a Regent’s Park estate has been charged with £100,000 fraud offences.
Tenants at the Cumberland Market estate will be informed this week by landlords the Crown Estate that former housing officer Jan Harris, dismissed last month, was arrested and charged by detectives called in to investigate allegations of fraud.
The 50-year-old from Stepney was charged on Friday with deception and theft of more than £100,000 and bailed to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court in January.
Investigations are continuing at the 1930s estate, which has a mixture of 500 affordable and key worker tenancies.
A Crown Estate spokesman said this week that residents were being kept informed of developments as far as possible but that details of the police case could not be disclosed.
Residents association chairman Steve Smith said: “Everyone is naturally waiting to see the outcome of the police investigation.”
