Golden girls lead the way in cross-country

TOP athletes from across the borough turned out in force to tackle a testing 3,000m course around Parliament Hill in the Camden Schools Cross-Country Championships.
Runners from Camden School for Girls dominated the field in the Under-17s category as they raced to glory to earn a clean sweep on the winners’ podium. Ciara McCroary hit home first with a time of 13.08, followed by Frankie Boon who recorded a time of 13.30. Highgate Harrier Georgia Doolan completed the top-three finish with a time of 14.22.
In the girls’ Under-15s competition, Theo Prosser crossed the line in 13.15 to take third place and help Channing School in Highgate win the overall team trophy.
Highgate Harriers celebrated a top-two finish, with the ever-impressive Samara Williams from Acland Burghley School taking first place with a time of 11.27, and Amy-Jane Cotter, who goes to North Bridge House in Hampstead, finishing second in 12.19.
In the boys’ category, Dan White (11.10) and Raymond Vangiladio (11.15) finished just five seconds apart in second and third place respectively to help lead William Ellis School in Highgate to victory in the Under-15s race. CJ Burke from University College School in Hampstead put in a commanding performance to win the race outright with an impressive time of 10.46.
Brothers William and George Laing, who also go to University College School, clocked the fastest times of the day when they crossed the finishing line in 9.53 and 10.13 respectively to take gold and silver positions in the boys’ Under-17s category. Omar Sufi from Acland Burghley secured bronze with a time of 10.39.
But the overall trophy went to Haverstock School in Chalk Farm as they finished with the most runners in scoring positions.
