Big Mac flies in the county open
FIVE Camden Swiss Cottage swimmers were crowned Open County champions at the weekend when they made waves at the Middlesex Short-Course Championships in Enfield.
Alex Mackay showed off his skills in the freestyle as he won the 200m, 400m and 1500m in outstanding best times of 1.59.93, 4.08.62 and 16.18.97. The talented 15-year-old also won the 400m individual medley in 4.38.53, before finishing second in the junior 100m freestyle and third in the junior 100m fly.
Club-mate Harry Needs, 15, continued the success as he won two open and junior titles in the 200m breaststroke and the 200m individual medley, setting a personal best of 2.29.25 in the breaststroke. The Islington youngster also won junior trophies in the 50m breaststroke, the 50m and 100m butterfly, the 100m individual medley and the 200m backstroke.
Jessica Hobbs, 13, won her 800m and 1500m freestyle events outright to clinch six titles, two in the open, two in the junior and two in the Under-15s category. The speedy 13-year-old also finished third in 400m freestyle, second in 100m and 200m backstroke and third in the 200m freestyle.
The celebrations continued when Ed Walsh won the open 50m breaststroke and the 100m individual medley, before finishing third in the open 50m fly final.
Devon Robins, Felix Samuels and Ensger Kotterink also became Junior County champions. Devon finished second in five different open events and clinched three junior titles. Felix won the junior and Under-15s 50m and 100m freestyle, while Ensger was second in the open 200m fly, the junior 100m fly and the 100m individual medley.
Naomi Wakeham-Aredes, Lucas Perry-Hill and Iao Pok Wong were also crowned County winners.
Club smashes its records
DELIGHTED duo Dominic McLoughlin and Brett McLean were celebrating at the weekend when they set an impressive nine new club records between them for Anaconda at the Middlesex Short-Course Championships at Southbury Road Pool.
Dominic, 12, set new best times in the 50m, 200m and 400m freestyle, the 200m backstroke and the 50m butterfly.
Brett added to the impressive feat when he set new records in the 100m and 200m butterfly, the 200m freestyle and the 400m freestyle, winning a gold medal and a bronze along the way.
Elsewhere Clare Walton won silver in the 14 and under 100m individual medley, while Wayne Lock won bronze in the open 50m breaststroke. |
