Action-packed weekend sees strikers run riot with six goals per game

THERE was an average of six goals a game in the Camden Sunday League at the weekend as the nine fixtures at Hackney Marshes shared an impressive 54 goals between them.
Division One leaders Cobden Athletic stretched their lead at the top of the table to five points with a 2-0 victory over Archway Allstars.
Captain Michael Johnson opened the scoring within minutes of the kick-off when he unleashed a stunning half-volley from just outside the penalty area. The points were made safe midway through the second-half when Jason Williams came off the bench to add a second.
Cobden’s victory was marred in the final seconds, however, when teammates Chris Knott and Daniel Bensalem were both sent-off after squaring up to each other.
The only other top flight game saw AFC Brasenose break into the top three with a convincing 6-0 win over Tergemo. David Hollowday opened the scoring with a powerful 25-yard free-kick before goals from Hal Stockley and Watson Pringle all but sealed the win.
Tergemo were denied a way back into the game when goalkeeper Eli Mitropoulos saved a penalty following a reckless challenge from Richard Davies.
Brasenose continued to run riot, with leading scorer Arthur Green scoring twice and John Ditchburn also finding the back of the net.
Division Two table toppers DOM maintained their 100 per cent start to the season with a resounding win over FC Bertoli.
Top scorer Deji Davies stole the show with a clinical display in front of goal as he netted six stunning goals. Andrew Noble, Leon Mann and Tom Bunting were also all on target as DOM powered their way to a 9-1 victory.
CS Maritimo are four points off top spot after being held to a 2-2 draw against Surreal Madrid. Tom O’Neill bagged a first-half brace to help lead The Constitution to a 5-0 win over MDM. Goals from Laurence Lee, Lee Miller and Billy Evans completed the rout to leave the Con’s third. The remaining Division Two fixture saw Hornsey beat Dinamo Dorigo 4-2.
A whopping 18 goals were scored in the two fixtures that took place in Division Three, with AC Scorpions beating Mayville 7-0 and AFC Shooters overcoming the Surreal Madrid ‘D’ team 9-2.
Meanwhile in the clash of the titans Reddot came out on top after beating rivals Phoenix 2-1 in the quarter-finals of the Senior Cup. Phoenix went close early on when James Cole forced Dots’ goalkeeper Jimmy Russell into a magnificent save.
In an end-to-end game, Steven Bruce then wasted a good chance to give Reddot the lead when he blazed over from close range. The deadlock was broken midway through the first-half when Jason Medford headed home John Donovan’s in-swinging corner.
Phoenix shot-stopper Barry Breen pulled off a series of fine saves to keep his team in the game. But super sub Paul ‘Trigger’ Reid came of the bench for Reddot to net what proved to be the winner with a stunning volley.
Aron Kennedy set up a nervous finale when he pulled a goal back for Phoenix late on, but it proved too little, too late as the Dots held out to book their place in the semi-finals.
