Companies’ staff join school children to sing charity carols

BUSINESSES showed yuletide spirit by singing traditional Christmas carols and handing over £500 to a homeless charity at St Martin’s Gardens.
Gathering around an illuminated tree in the centre of the park on Wednesday, children from primary schools, St Michael’s in Camden Street and Our Lady’s in Pratt Street, enjoyed home-made mince pies made by Café 43 on Pratt Street.
Representatives of Getty Images, Emap, Bar Cuba and other Camden Town Unlimited (CTU) affiliates partnered up with Camden Road’s St Michael’s Church to hand over £500 to homeless charity Camden and City Churches Cold Weather Shelter.
St Michael’s rector, Father Nicholas Wheeler and Simon Pitkeathley, the chief executive of CTU, which levies funds to improve streetscapes for business development in the area, mooted plans for the event at a recent Camden Town Forum meeting.
Fr Wheeler, who is due to leave St Michael’s Church in Camden Town for a church in in Brazil next year, said: “Camden Town needs to be helped to come together because there are so many people and it’s easy to rush by each other. It’s thrilling that local businesses have given this to Winter Weather Shelter because homelessness is a real issue on the streets of Camden Town.”
Mr Pitkeathley said: “For us it’s about getting our businesses more engaged with the people they are working around.”
