Royal Free defends taxi fares for staff
THE Royal Free Hospital defended its decision to charge staff a proportion of their taxi fare for travelling in to work by cab over Christmas.
Hospital chiefs said charging people a share of their fare was only one of the options available to staff trying to get to work on Christmas and Boxing days.
Others included driving into work, and sharing a cab with colleagues.
Philip Holmes, the assistant director of facilities said: “It’s not about saving any money at all – it’s about giving them different options.”
Staff unable to share cabs will have to pay 20 per cent of their cab journey.
