The kindness of strangers
• On behalf of the residents at Conway House I would like to thank your newspaper and all the readers that contributed to your Christmas appeal collection.
As a result of the money raised we were fortunate to receive a number of Christmas Hampers for the residents at Conway House.
The Hampers were much appreciated. It is important to note that whilst we receive some funding from the London borough of Camden to help run the project, the funding cannot be allocated to buying gifts for residents. The hostel accommodates homeless men referred to us from Camden Housing Options Team and as you may imagine, the men often have few friends and relatives and consequently receive few if any gifts at this time of year.
The gesture was particularly appreciated this year because there have been some tragic deaths at the scheme recently. This has affected both staff and residents and it is encouraging to receive such a positive gesture from your newspaper.
I am also pleased to report that we received some donations for the residents of Conway House of chocolates etc from some residents living in the locality of the scheme. This is also very encouraging to staff and residents to know that there is this level of support for the scheme in the area. I would like to use your newspaper to thank them for their generous and much appreciated gesture.
