Together again... Anais and Auden Lone and Blossom
A girl and her dog reunited, thanks to thief
with a heart
Anonymous phone call... then pet is left at spot where she was snatched
A thief who stole a child’s dog days before Christmas underwent a Scrooge-like change of heart last week, anonymously returning the pet to the spot in Kentish Town where she was stolen a fortnight earlier.
Seven-year-old Anais Lone’s dog and “best friend” Blossom was snatched from outside Kentish Town Library on December 15.
In their search for the three-year-old mixed breed, Anais and her father, Auden, from nearby Castle Road, put up posters in shop windows and offered a cash reward – but without success.
Then, by a bizarre twist of fate usually reserved for Christmas family movies, Anais was reunited with Blossom when the dognapper felt the tug of his conscience.
Mr Lone said: “We’d given up hope. My daughter’s Christmas was ruined. “All the presents couldn’t really compensate for the fact her heart had been broken. “Then, on New Year’s Eve, we got an anonymous phone call. It was a man saying he’d got our dog and he was going to leave it outside the library, where it had been taken. He sounded like he was on the verge of tears. “Anais was off and running before I’d even put the phone down. The guy was nowhere to be seen. He didn’t hang around for the reward or anything.”
Anais, delighted to be reunited with Blossom, said: “I missed her so much. Everything reminded me of her. “Me and her are best pals. We roll all over the floor together and chase each other about. I’m very happy she’s back. Very.”
Mr Lone believes the man he has dubbed the “good thief” was prompted to return the dog by a mixture of kindness and guilt.
He said: “Maybe the thief was lonely and wanted some company over Christmas. Maybe he realised he’d deprived a family of a really lovely dog. “Everyone starts smiling and patting the dog and patting my daughter when we tell them. People don’t expect that kind of thing to happen.”
The Lones adopted Blossom from the Mayhew Animal Home in Kensal Green. She was one of a litter of eight puppies abandoned on the streets of Manchester.
