Camden New Journal - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 17 January 2008

Retaining a faith in Christmas?

• I READ with much interest and some disagreement your report (Modern Christmas ‘demonic’ declares midnight mass priest, January, 3).
Like the Holy Family, our church family was homeless this Christmas (our church building is being redeveloped).
We relied on the hospitality of next door Church House (HQ of the United Reformed Church denomination).
Several of us sent Gift Aid presents to some of the world’s needy on behalf of our loved ones.
We designed our church’s Christmas card and sent or distributed approximately 100 copies to colleagues and friends who include staff of local cafés.
Local churches, including our own, produced a joint Christmas card, distributing them locally. I found that the more anxious I was about distributing them to people of other faiths or perhaps none, these were among the people who were most receptive.
I was immeasurably moved when I attended Christmas services and count Christmas 2007 (for which I and others worked hard) the best ever.
