‘Inadequate training’ of junior doctor who treated baby

A BABY died after being sent home from hospital by a junior doctor who missed “vital signs” that he was seriously ill, a medical inquiry has heard.
Junior doctor Roohi Singh yesterday (Wednesday) admitted that he had made an error when he allowed eight-month-old Albie Jago to leave the University College London Hospital. The baby succumbed to meningococcal septicaemia later that day.
Dr Singh, 25, took to the witness stand at a fitness-to-practice hearing at the General Medical Council’s headquarters in Manchester to give his version of events. He is accused of missing Albie’s racing heartbeat and failing to alert senior staff when he made a diagnosis of tonsillitis in December 2005.
A panel of three experts have the power to end his medical career. The inquiry has heard how UCLH threw junior doctors into critical situations with “inadequate training” and how senior consultants were “reluctant” to help out in the emergency ward.
Sam Johns, Albie’s mother, looked visibly distressed as she gave evidence but said she was determined for the truth to be heard.
