Cycle stations plan to create greener borough

CYCLE “stations”, complete with secure parking for bikes and shower facilities, were top of the billing when council chiefs unveiled their proposals for a greener Camden this week.
The stations, which will also have on-site bike maintenance, receptionists and a café, could be a reality from March.
The first two, at a cost of up to £200,000 each, are planned for High Holborn and the King’s Cross redevelopment.
Funding for the buildings, which will require a membership fee, will be sought from private developers and transport operators.
Members of the public are being invited to voice their opinions on the plans, which are part of the Green Transport Strategy to reduce traffic congestion and improve public safety, health and air quality.
Other suggestions include increased electric charging facilities for cars and scooters, greater transport support for school runs, more car clubs and easier-to-read signage to encourage walking.
Cllr Mike Greene, executive member, environment, Camden Council said: “The Green Transport Strategy contains a variety of exciting initiatives aimed at improving our local environment. I hope everyone will take this opportunity to get involved.”
The consultation ends on February 22. Copies of the strategy can be accessed at local libraries or online.
