Camden New Journal - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 24 January 2008

Vision for Hampstead Town Hall

• I ENTIRELY agree with the comments on concerning Hampstead Town Hall by Gerry Isaaman and Nigel Steward (December 13) in response to your article of December 6: (Friendly fire: charity trustees told to go).
I note that the current trustees chair, Janet Wallace, was quoted as saying that she and other board members would not resign, because with “51 years of experience between them” it would be appropriate for them to play a part in the process of appointing a new chief executive.
Just having “experience” is no guarantee of good management.
Indeed, from what we have seen, more of the kind of “experience” offered by the current long-standing trustees is just what we don’t need.
We welcome the assurances from the new independent trustees that they intend to “take forward the original vision for Hampstead Town Hall in an open and accountable way”.
This is the vision the residents of Hampstead want to see inspiring a new chief executive, and a completely new board must be a continuing part of that process.
Tony Hillier
Chair, The Heath and Hampstead Society
